Surrendering connotes so many definitions. Some surrender to something greater than what society dictates. Some also surrender to things they believe they have no control over. Some simply surrender to themselves because they feel worthy of it. I believe a fashion marauder simply surrenders. It’s that great feeling of the power of vulnerability that at any given moment a fashion marauder just is and trusts. However a fashion marauder chooses to look doesn’t need to be justified because of that inner peace that asserts everything is plain beautiful.
Surrendering to your style involves grasping vulnerability. Bene Brown talks about it in TED (http://www.ted.com/speakers/brene_brown.html) and I quote her “Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity, and change.” It’s a heavy concept to delve in but very powerful when one chooses to experience it.
So really, how does a fashion marauder surrender?
Marauder step 1: Trust in yourself. When faced with a sea of clothes, embrace the possibility of your creativity. Vulnerability allows you to create and change fluidly. Simply trust that you choose to be yourself and that your style decisions are merely manifestations of how much you trust yourself.
Marauder steps 2: Be courageous. That plunge into style uncertainity will allow you to experience trusting yourself. You may not be sure about how people will react about what you wear but at the end of the day, not only will you feel great, but you’re guaranteed an amazing story of how you chose to experience yourself differently. It will and always turn out better. You’ll feel amazing and on top of the world after you decide to take that leap of faith, liberated maybe. End of the day, Your choice to experience yourself courageously gives you a story you can be proud of or even laugh about.
Marauder step 3: Love yourself some more. Fashion marauders surrender because of their love for themselves. They shop because they love themselves. They create outfits because they love themselves. But above all, they love themselves enough to trust that every time they look at the mirror, the beauty and love that they feel is seen beyond that.
It was the French fabulist Jean de La Fontaine who said “A person often meets his destiny on the road he took to avoid it.” The roads less travelled I believe is where the realm of possibilities lie for fashion marauders who want to surrender. Let nothing get in the way from travelling that road, you are always worthy of experiencing yourself better. Surrender.
