MANILA, Philiipines — The Aquino administration’s proposed reform in “sin” taxes may not move as quickly through the Senate due to the ongoing impeachment trial and the upcoming 2013 elections where a number of senators are gunning for reelection, US-based think tank Global Source said.
In its latest report released yesterday, Global Source warned that Congress may come up with an altered version of the bill as raising taxes on “sin” products can be a highly unpopular move for a number of senators who are gunning for reelection next year.
